2 charged in Jeannette break-in, assault of resident
May 10—A Jeannette man is being held without bail after police said he broke into a city home and attacked a sleeping woman, according to court papers.
Police said Jamar Abdul McIntosh, 42, pointed a gun at the woman and punched her several times.
He was arrested Thursday.
Police said the incident was reported at a home operated by Westmoreland Community Action just before 3 a.m. May 2. The female resident told investigators she was sleeping on the couch when McIntosh and his girlfriend, Tara T. Thomas, 28, of Jeannette, came in through an unlocked door, according to court papers.
McIntosh punched her at least six times and pointed the gun at her, accusing the woman of stealing a cell phone from him, police said. The woman denied the theft.
Thomas, who is charged with conspiracy, previously lived at the residence but had been kicked out about a month earlier. Police said footage from video surveillance showed two people get out of a car and walk toward the house. Six minutes later, they got back into the car and left.
McIntosh is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, harassment and simple assault. He is being held at the Westmoreland County Prison. Judge Joseph DeMarchis said he denied bail to ensure the victim's safety, according to online court records.
McIntosh did not have an attorney listed. A preliminary hearing is set for May 20. A detainer hearing was held Monday in a few cases in which McIntosh pleaded guilty last month and was sentenced to 30 days to 23 months in the jail, according to online court records. His criminal history dates back to 2007.
An arrest warrant was issued for Thomas.
