Investigators still are piecing together the events that led to the death of a 6-year-old boy who was hit by an all-terrain vehicle at a Beaumont park over the weekend.

Beaumont police officers went to Tyrrell Park just after 7 p.m. on Saturday after receiving calls that a child had been involved in an ATV crash.

According to a Beaumont Police Department news release, investigators concluded that the ATV was being operated by a 36-year-old man.

The child died at a local hospital, the release said.

The identity of the driver hasn’t been released, but police reported Sunday evening that the man was arrested on outstanding warrants, which were not related to the crash. He currently is at the Jefferson County Detention Center.
