Bengaluru, May 10 (UNI) The first Oxygen Express train, carrying 120 tonnes of liquid oxygen, will reach Container Corporation India in Whitefield, Bengaluru on Tuesday.
According to Anish Hegde, Chief PRO of South Western Railway (SWR), the first express train consists of six cryogenic containers, each containing 20 tonnes of liquid oxygen.
'Based on the request of the Karnataka government, the Railways is running the Oxygen Express train. The distance between the original station and the city is about 1860 kilometers. A green corridor has been built for the train. The train will reach Whitefield on Tuesday".
To facilitate the movement of tankers, SWR had constructed a ramp at Whitefield. If needed, the authorities will use the facilities at Doddaballapur to transport oxygen tankers in future.
It may be mentioned here that the first week of May, Chief Secretary of State P W Ravi Kumar had written a letter to the Railway Board requesting it to operate of Oxygen Express to reduce the shortage of liquid oxygen in the state.
