With cases going south, markets are seeing a rush despite curbs
Nagpur: Covid-19 cases have declined by almost 66% in the district in the last 12 days. Deaths too dropped on Monday and were lowest in the last 37 days.
Total 2,530 persons tested positive for novel coronavirus in the district on Monday. Cases were 7,503 on April 28. Since then, the cases are plummeting.
Of the 2,530 cases, 1,371 were from city, 1,149 from rural and 10 from other districts. On April 28, 4,803 cases were from city, 2,690 from rural and 10 from other districts for a total of 7,503.
Tests on Monday also dropped to 15,310 despite all testing centres reportedly functioning. Even the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) added a new laboratory of SpiceHealth with a capacity of 2,000 tests per day 10 days ago. Tests were 26,525 on April 28.
Total 51 patients died in the district on Monday. The number of fatalities was 47 on April 3. Since then, deaths have been above 50 on all days with the highest being 113 on April 19.
As many as 6,068 patients recovered in the district, a lot more than new cases. Recoveries have been more than new cases for consecutive 11 days. The number of recoveries is 68,576 in May so far whereas the new cases are 43,818.
Due to more recoveries, active positive cases in the district have also started to decline. Active cases were 51,143 on Monday. The highest such cases in a day were 77,556 on April 25.
With decline in active cases, the number of vacant beds in Covid hospitals is on the rise with every passing day. As per NMC’s data, 1,740 beds were vacant in the city Monday evening. Total 1,538 vacant beds were with oxygen supply, 198 in ICU and four with ventilators.
