Newsmax Host Says Booming 'Trump Economy' Officially Over, 'Welcome to Obama's 3rd Term'

Newsmax host Chris Salcedo responded to a weaker-than-expected April jobs report by officially declaring Friday, May 7, the end of a bustling "Trump economy" and the beginning of an "Obama-Biden" third term.

The host of Newsmax TV's Liberty Loving Latino program accused President Joe Biden of "blaming Trump" over a Friday Labor Department report that showed the U.S. economy added 266,000 jobs in April versus the 978,000 forecast by government economists. Salcedo accused "Democratic socialists like Biden" of perpetually denying accountability by blaming their GOP predecessors. Reiterating that the U.S. was "cursed by a third term of Obama," Salcedo said the pre-adjustment April employment numbers are proof the "Trump economy" officially ended May 7, the day the Labor report was released.

Salcedo warned Biden is trying to raise taxes to "near criminal levels" just moments before touting Trump and the GOP's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act for bringing in a "record $1.7 trillion" in tax revenue from middle-class American workers.

"Our economy is collapsing at a far faster rate than I could [have] ever possibly imagined," Salcedo said. "Biden's grotesque government-centered spending is a joke. But instead of being a man and accepting responsibility for his child-like economic policies, Biden did what all socialist Democrats do—blame a Republican."

"But thanks to the Trump economy, we weathered the government-imposed shutdown storm," Salcedo continued, claiming Trump saved the U.S. from the pandemic's effect on businesses. "Since President Trump's push to re-open our economy, our unemployment rate was falling like a rock. Had he continued in the Oval Office, our national economy would resemble that of Texas or Florida. But sadly, our nation was cursed with a 3rd term of Obama."

Biden, who called a press conference shortly after the release of the lagging April jobs report, was mocked by Salcedo for his remarks at the White House Friday.

"We knew this wouldn't be a sprint, it'd be a marathon, quite frankly, we're moving more rapidly than I thought we would. This morning we learned our economy created 266,000 jobs in April. And listening to commentators today, as I was getting dressed, you might think that we should be disappointed," Biden said.

"People who built this country have been left out in the cold, struggling just to keep their heads above water while those at the top have done very well. We're still digging out of an economic collapse that cost us 22 million jobs. When we came in, we inherited a year of profound economic crisis and mismanagement on the virus," the president continued, prompting mockery in the Newsmax segment.

"Right, blame Trump," Salcedo said, throwing his head back in laughter at Biden's remarks. "We've got four more years of that, my friends, to look forward to."

Salcedo added Obama also blamed his Republican predecessor, George W. Bush, for poor economic data, which few economists disputed in the wake of the 2008 recession.

"And then Bush couldn't wait to kiss Obama's rear end at the first opportunity. That's a discussion for a different day," Salcedo jeered.

Economists are less convinced than Salcedo that the April jobs report is as negative as conservative political pundits are claiming.

"A labor demand problem would be worse, this wasn't that," Yahoo Finance economic analyst Sam Ro wrote Monday. "[But] there's certainly no shortage of reports confirming robust demand for labor."

Steve Guest, former GOP spokesman and current advisor to senator Ted Cruz, latched onto Salcedo's response to the April jobs report, tweeting Monday, "Joe Biden's economy: The April jobs report was the worst miss in 23 years: 'The worst miss, we're told, since '98," he added, quoting CNBC host Carl Quintanilla's response on May 7.
