Allocate 20,000 Remdesivir vials per day to TN : Stalin urges Centre

Chennai, May 10 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on
Monday urged the Centre to allocate at least 20,0000 vials of
Remdesivir drug a day to the State for treating COVID infected
patients as against 7,000 vials being allocated at present.
Mr Stalin spoke over phone to Union Minister for Railways and
Commerce Piyush Goyal and urged him to increase the allocation
to at least 20,000 vials of Remdesivir a day to the State as the
present allocation of 7,000 vials was inadequate.
He said so far 2.05 lakh vials have been allocated to the State
by the Centre.
“The needs of government and private hospitals across the State
will be catered to only if 20,000 vials of Remdesivir are allocated
to Tamil Nadu,” Mr.Stalin told Mr.Goyal, according to an official
release.
Mr.Goyal assured Mr Stalin that he he would consider the request,
the release added.
Mr Stalin also informed Mr Goyal that 1.45 lakh people are under
treatment after testing COVID positive and that all efforts were
being taken by the government to procure Remdesivir vials for
treating COVID patients with lung infection.
He said at present Remdesivir drug is being provided in all important
government hospitals and in private hospitals in six major cities.
