IPAK asks Govt to control price hike

Imphal, May 08 2021: Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) has demanded the state government to check price hike of essential items during lockdown and curfew enforced by it, as well as provide relief items to the public affected by the lockdown and Covid-19 pandemic.

In a release, IPAK secretary general Leishangthem Romen Meetei contended that the government must exhort doctors, nurses and health care workers involved in the fight against the pandemic to serve the patient diligently and closely monitor the requirements of hospitals to save the lives of Covid-19 patients.

It is very unfortunate that on May 3, the body of Covid-19 patient who died at JNIMS was cremated without the knowledge of the family members.

This shows negligence on the part of JNIMS which is sullying the good work of its doctors and staff, it stated.

IPAK also lamented that the family after even getting valid permissions to cremate the body themselves could not perform last rites of the deceased due to lapses on the part of the JNIMS authority.

As such, the JNIMS director must conduct a departmental enquiry into the incident and take action, so that such incidents are not repeated.

Police must also take up suo moto case and take action against those involved in the incident, it demanded.

IPAK also urged the government to look into the death of one P Masiiyi Mao on April 30, after the youth was brought for treatment at Imphal following an accident.

The youth lost his life as hospitals including Shija Hospitals, Raj Medicity, Little Clinic, RIMS and JNIMS denied proper treatment fearing him to be Covid-19 positive, it alleged.

The CSO appealed to the government to punish those responsible for the death of the youth, while requesting doctors to follow their professional ethics as much as possible.
