Port Blair, May 09 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Administration today said that high positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded among local inter-island passengers than passengers coming from Mainland India by flights.
“A total of 350 passengers arrived by flight yesterday and during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on these passengers, only 3 passengers were found positive while the test conducted on 71 passengers bound for Middle & North Andaman 8 were found positive. This shows that the number of positive cases among the passengers coming from the mainland has decreased whereas the positive cases have increased among those moving to Inter-Island,” the Secretary (IP&T), Mr Sunil Kumar Singh told media persons today.
He said, this ratio of high positive cases in Inter-Island movement passengers is alarming and a matter of grave concern for the Administration.
Appealing to the general public, the Secretary said, “minimize your movement, stay at home, don’t move around, don’t endanger your life, your family members lives and the lives of others”.
He further urged the general public to report immediately, if they have any symptoms of COVID or even slight fever so that proper test can be done if required and timely treatment can be started.
The Secretary said that since the start of the second wave of COVID-19, there is no decline in the number of COVID patients which are reported every day. This is a matter of great concern for the A&N Administration, the Secretary said adding that the Administration is taking stringent measures and prosecuted the violators but still the violations are going on despite repeated appeal to follow COVID appropriate behaviour by every individual.
Expressing concern over non-compliance of social distancing norms in some market places in the town area by the shop owners, the Secretary said, if such trend continues, then, the Administration will be left with no option but to go for further stricter measures in the coming days.
