Suffering is the default state for every biological being. Those who enjoy a semblance of peace and brief iterations of something approximating pleasure are the lucky ones among us.
And by “us” I mean every living conscious creature.
This Universe actually hates us and thrusts us into a maelstrom of pain and misery. We are simulacrums forced into disgusting bags of meat and told we must live as though we are actually real.
And we are ensured to be resigned to pure oblivion for eternity. This world is a hateful and terrible pool of unbearable suffering. There is no meaning to anything.

Of course life has meaning, why else would you sustain your life with the things you need to live? The West is still dealing with secularism, they have not fully wrapped their heads around this idea. They really only picked it up in the modern era, thousands of years after it was first formalized.
Nihilism is definitely absurd and outdated, if the nihilist is so enlightened and disillusioned then why do they care so much? Why do they sustain their lives with daily rituals and seek out meaning? It's not pragmatic to actually live the belief that all is without meaning because our minds are not built that way. That's where meaning resides, in the mind.
What is the root of suffering? Some would posit that it is desire and attachment. We suffer because we lose or lack the things we desire. I'm fine with suffering for now because I value the attachments I have to the ones I love. I find that life is full of meaning, and a lot of it comes from love and truth.
I find that nihilism is attractive to those faced with disillusionment or the cold nature of industrialized society. It's an easy and simple answer to navigating a life beyond organized religion, but it is ultimately immature, unrealistic, and impractical. I'm not living in 19th century Germany trying to navigate the brave new world of industrialization and material secularism like Nietzsche and pals.Beans, cleans, gasoline
