The Employees State Insurance Corporation, under the ministry of labour and employment, has installed oxygen generation plants at its two hospitals in Delhi NCR area.
These include a 440 LPM capacity plant at the ESIC Hospital and Medical College in Faridabad and another plant of 220 LPM capacity at ESIC Hospital in Jhilmil, New Delhi on Sunday.
"This will enable these hospitals to augment the availability of their ICU and Ventilator beds," labour ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, the Corporation is actively helping fight the battle against Covid-19 by quickly converting it 30 hospitals all over the country into Covid dedicated facilities.
These hospitals have around 4200 beds, including 300 ICU beds and 250 ventilator beds. The facility has been made available to all citizens of the country and not just ESIC beneficiaries.
"A dashboard has also been started to facilitate beneficiaries to know about availability of beds in these hospitals," it further said.
There are, at present, around 1520 ESI dispensaries and 159 hospitals across the country, out of which 45 dispensaries and 49 hospitals are directly run by ESIC while remaining dispensaries and hospitals are run by the respective state governments.
Medical services to the insured workers and their dependants under the ESI scheme are provided primarily through hospitals and dispensaries run by the state governments.
