West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Saturday said he was disgusted with Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) for thier stance on post-poll violence in West Bengal. He expressed displeasure at not being updated on the law and order situation in the state.
Unfortunately both came without any paper or reports sought. Directed them to send the same without delay. In a sense disgusted with such stance, Dhankhar tweeted after the officers met him.
State Chief Secretary and Director General of Police Virendra called on the governor at Raj Bhavan on Saturday evening after being summoned by him over the law and order situation in West Bengal.
The governor said the home secretary has failed to update him on the law and order situation vis a vis the post-poll violence. His sitting on reports of DGP and (CP) Kolkata Police and not forwarding the status to him is too serious dereliction of duty to be overlooked. This is aggravating given the worrisome and alarming situation in state as a consequence of post poll retributive violence.
Dhankar had asked the chief secretary to see him. Chief Secretary has been called upon to see him today before 7 PM as ACS Home failed to impart status report on law and order regarding post poll violence, Dhankar tweeted.
Mamata Banerjee won a landslide victory in the Bengal election to secure a third straight term. The Trinamool won 213 of 292 seats while its strongest rival, BJP, finished second with 77 seats.
West Bengal has been rocked by large scale violence that erupted after the Assembly poll results announced on May 2.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that 16 people of different political parties have lost their lives in clashes after the end of the polls.
A four-member team of the union home ministry, tasked with looking into reasons for the post-poll violence in Bengal, had met Mr Dhankhar at Raj Bhawan.
