Rs 5 lakh fine slapped for wrong blood test report to Tripura pathology

Agartala, May 9 (UNI) The Gomati District Consumer Court slapped a fine of Rs 5 lakh to a Pathology centre of Udaipur as compensation to the petitioner Bijoy Das for supplying an incorrect blood test report, for which he has suffered seriously.
According to the report, Das, Tripura State Rifles jawan had tested Hepatitis C positive, based on which doctor prescribed him medicines sometimes in 2016. Immediately, after administering the medicine, the health condition of Bijoy deteriorated.
With the advice of the doctor, he had to go to a renowned hospital in Chennai. The doctors attending him with a due medical test diagnosed Bijoy as not infected with Hepatitis C but took medicine for the disease, which had reacted in his body and caused harm.
After a long treatment, Bijoy Das recovered from the illness and moved to District Consumer Court against the Pathology unit that had diagnosed him infected with Hepatitis C. The petitioner claimed in the court that because of a wrong blood test report about such a serious disease, the doctor prescribed him medicines.
However, after getting the medicine, his health condition got deteriorated, which has caused irreparable damage to his health besides, affecting his psychology and incurred a huge financial loss.
After a prolonged hearing of the case, The President of the District Consumer Court A K Nath directed the pathology to pay the compensation of Rs 5 lakh within two months to the victim.
