Chennai, May 9 (UNI) Senior IAS officer Gagandeep Singh Bedi,
who came in praise for his effective handling of the tsunami tragedy
as the Cuddalore district Collector and during cyclones, was today
appointed as the new Commissioner of the Greater Chennai
Corporation.
He replaces incumbent Commissioner G.Prakash, who has been
transferred.
Mr.Gagandeep Singh Bedi is a senior official in the rank of principal
secretary with experience in various aspects of disaster management
for several years.
A GO issued by Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu said Mr Gangandeep
Singh Bedi, Agricultural Production Commissioner and Agricultural
Department Secretary, is placed at the disposal of Greater Chennai
Corporation for appointment as its Principal Secretary/Commissioner
vice G Prakash.
Under Rule 12(1) of the IAS (Pay) Rules, 2016, the Government
declare that the post of Principal Secretary/Commissioner of
Corporation is equivalent in status and responsibilities of the
cadre post of 'Principal Secretary-cum-Commissioner, specified
in Schedule II-A of the IAS (Pay) Rules, 2016', the GO said.
A few hours before his transfer, Mr.Prakash took part in an event
to launch a siddha COVID care centre in the city by Health Minister
Ma. Subramanian.
