BHUBANESWAR: Day after the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) announced alternative marking system for Class X students, experts felt it may not be able to do justice to the merit of students.
“The BSE has made a mockery of the examination system. Class IX final exam was not conducted by the board, but 40% weightage will be given to Class IX mark. Similarly, exams of Class X were held as practice test and were optional, so many students did not appear. How can the marking system be fair to students? asked Sayakam Mishra, a former BSE president.
Experts said the Class IX examination is a class test and its marks should not be considered for Class X board exam. “The alternative marking system is not full-proof. The marks may get inflated,” said Pritish Acharya, educationist and reader at Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Bhubaneswar.
However, the education minister Samir Ranjan Dash said, “Those who do not agree with the marks may appear for the exam when situation improves.”
