Ludhiana: The district recorded the highest single-day toll as well as the case count on Sunday, when Covid-19 claimed 22 lives and left 1,729 infected. The second highest case count was logged on May 1, when 1,600 people had tested positive.
As per the health department bulletin, 32 deaths were reported in Ludhiana on the day. Of them, 22 patients were of Ludhiana, two of Mohali, and one each of Fatehgarh Sahib, Moga, Bathinda, Ropar Sangrur, Chandigarh, Haryana and Delhi.
The district casualties included a 33-year-old man of Haibowal Kalan, a 45-year-old woman of Hussainpura, a 62-year-old woman of Karnail Singh Nagar, a 28-year-old man of Model Town, a 41-year-old man of Shimlapuri, a 29-year-old woman of Kailash Nagar, a 59-year-old woman of Millerganj, a 72-year-old man of Daresi Road, a 55-year-old woman of Dandi Swami Road, a 58-year-old woman of Mall Enclave, and a 55-year-old woman of Prem Nagar. The other deaths are of a 42-year-old woman of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, a 76-year-old man of Model Town, a 58-year-old woman of Sunder Nagar, a 62-year-old man of New Shivaji Nagar, a 25-year-old man of Civil Lines, a 60-year-old man of Mayapuri, a 50-year-old woman of Samrala, a 52-year-old woman of Jagraon, an 83-year-old woman of Aggar Nagar, a 46-year-old man of Shimlapuri, and an 84-year-old woman of New Shivaji Nagar.
Civil surgeon Dr Kiran Ahluwalia said the district’s toll tally has increased to 1,550 and that of outsiders to 786.
To date, 10,72,364 persons have been tested.
On the day, 151 patients from outside Ludhiana also tested positive here.
The local health department officials said the district case count is 66,995 and that of outsiders 9,029.
So far, 53,398 patients have recovered, which constitutes 79.70% of the total cases.
There are 12,047 active cases. On Sunday, 10,063 samples were collected.
Fifty-four patients are on ventilators. Of them, 41 are from Ludhiana.
