Curfew imposed in seven districts for 10 days

Imphal, May 07 2021: The state government has declared curfew in seven districts for a period of 10 days with efect from May 8.In an order issued in this regard on Friday, chief secretary in-charge and chairman of the Executive Committee of State Disaster Management Authority MH Khan informed that the measure was taken up considering the rapid spread of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic across the state.

The curfew imposed in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Toubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul district will remain in force till May 17.Permitted activities during the curfew period include all healthcare facilities, including animal healthcare, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and movement of healthcare workers; all pharmacies, including those selling veterinary medicines; all persons going for COVID-19 vaccination, COVID testing and medical emergencies; all employees and personnel working in media, power, fre service, PHED, CAFPD, home, health, Relief & DM, police departments and district administration (all other ofces to remain closed).

Only goods carriers, oxygen supply related vehicles, LPG and Oil tankers and vehicles of other essential services like power supply, fre service, water supply, waste/garbage clearance, PDS, medical/Covid services, electronic and print media, internet & telecom service providers and vehicles of personnel of departments/organisations permitted to function will also be exempted from the purview of the curfew.

Opening of petrol pumps and LPG outlets and movement of staf of IOCL will continue to be permitted.

Imphal airport shall remain open and movement of staf and passengers will remain unafected.

Hotels for lodging will be allowed to remain open with minimum staf while restaurants shall remain closed.

For other parts of the state not covered by the curfew, instructions issued in May 6 order will apply until further orders.

Any violation of the orders will be liable for punishment as per notifcation issued by home department on April 20 this year.

District Magistrates concerned shall issue necessary orders and implement the same, the order added.

Earlier in the day, taking serious note of the sudden surge of Covid-19 positive cases in the state, Chief Minister N Biren Singh reviewed the present situation in a virtual interaction with DCs, SPs and CMOs of diferent districts and doctors of RIMS, JNIMS and Covid Care Centres.

Speaking during the video conference, the Chief Minister expressed serious concern over the sudden rise in the number of casualties and positive cases in the past couple of days.

He urged the district administrations and the doctors to strengthen measures to save lives and put in best eforts to fatten the Covid infection curve.

The Chief Minister also authorised all the DCs to declare curfew in their respective jurisdictions.

They are also permitted to hire required vehicles and engage necessary manpower on daily wage basis.

Biren further said that as announced earlier, the Government would prioritise those medical personnel, who have completed 100 days of Covid-19 duties, for Government recruitments.

Moreover, dedicated personnel in hospitals and Covid Care Centres would be awarded special incentives, he assured.

The CM also directed all concerned to do whatever possible to reduce any inconveniences of the people regarding hospitalisation and in getting treatment.

He also asked the doctors to take care of patients to their satisfaction in the Covid wards by visiting at regular intervals.

PHE Minister L Dikho, Forest and Environment minister Awangbow Newmai, Hill Areas Committee chairman K Leishiyo, advisor to CM (Health) Dr S Ranjan, DGP LM Khaute, additional chief secretary MH Khan and other ofcials were also present during the video conference.
