Madrid Open 2021: Alexander Zverev defeats Dominic Thiem to enter the final- Alexander Zverev has defeated Dominic Thiem in straight sets to enter the finals of the Madrid Open 2021. The German defeated the Austrian 6-4, 6-3.

Zverev recorded his first win over Thiem since the 2018 Madrid final, defeating him 6-3 6-4 to book his place in tomorrow’s final!

“We have had some fantastic matches. We have played the biggest matches in the world. We have played Masters 1000 finals, we have played Grand Slam finals and [the rivalry] is still developing,” Zverev said in his post-match interview. “It is still going to go on for a few more years. Hopefully, we will play a few more amazing matches.”

Zverev will meet Belgrade champion Matteo Berrettini or three-time Masters 1000 semi-finalist Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final.

As per AFP, Zverev started strongly at the Caja Magica, saving a breakpoint to lead 2-1 before breaking in the following game at the fourth opportunity. He only dropped three more points on serve as he comfortably closed out the opening set, before piling the pressure on Thiem early in the second.

Fourth-seeded Thiem lost his serve twice in the first 5 matches to put German on the brink of win.
