Towns across Telangana in self-closing mode

Hyderabad: With a sudden increase in Covid-19 In many cases, many residents in the state are going to lock themselves up. While merchants close businesses early, village elders and panchayats restrict various activities in their respective villages to reduce human interaction.

The state government has already introduced a night clock in the state that restricts the movement of people and the running of businesses from 21:00 to 05:00. Despite this, there was an increase in Covid-19 cases in certain pockets. Fearing that the pandemic could spread further, the villagers imposed restrictions for one to two weeks or until the situation improved.

The Khammam Merchants Association, for example, has decided to impose a partial closure by reducing business hours in the city from Saturday. Consequently, stores would be open from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Similarly, an overall lockdown was instituted in Cherla’s headquarters of the Kothagudem district, while the weekly markets in Bhadrachalam and Dummugudem mandals were canceled indefinitely.

Gram panchayats make decisions to impose the closure, while village elders in some tribal huts ask residents to shut down voluntarily. In Salooora, the town of Bodhan, in the former Nizamabad district, villagers have decided to close shops and businesses voluntarily and no outsiders are allowed to enter the town. The villagers may buy essential products for two hours every morning. Similarly, the Town Development Committee (VDC) and the Gram Panchayat Committee decided a few days ago in Gandhari’s head office to set up a lock in the town.

Not only towns in and around Warangal, but also the towns in the remote parts of the district and on the forest edge, observe the exclusion by passing a resolution in this regard at the parent meeting of the town or during the Gram Panchayat meeting take. Towns, including Madikonda under GWMC borders, Ayyavaripeta, Chintur, Dharmaram and Mangapet in Mulugu, Elakaturthy, Hasanparthy, Kamalapur, Garmillapally and Mulkalagudem districts in Warangal district, closed voluntarily. Kirana stores and other commercial establishments are open from 07:00 to 10:00 and from 17:30 to 19:30 at Mulkalalagudem. At Garmillapally, shops may operate from 06:00 to 12:00 and the exclusion will end on 31 May.

As part of the self-imposed restrictions with the cooperation of traders, all traders, except those of medical, fruit and kirana shops, decided to close their businesses in Yadagirgutta of Yadadri-Bhongir district after 14:00. The restriction will continue until a further decision is made by the municipal council. Miryalaguda Two Wheelers Associations has also decided to close their stores from May 10 to 20 in the town in the Nalgonda district. The Suryapet Brahman Society has also decided to perform rituals in functions, including marriages, only on May 30th.
