India reports highest deaths in a single day, 4 lakh Covid cases for the third straight day

India reported 4,01,078 coronavirus cases on Saturday with the record high deaths of 4,187 in the last 24 hours to 8:00 AM. This is also the third straight day when the country reported more than 4-lakh daily cases in a single day. On a cumulative basis, the Covid  infections stood at 2,18,92,676 of which active cases were 37,23,446, those who recovered stood at 1,79,30,960 and the death toll was 2,38,270.

Meanwhile, India administered 16,73,46,544 anti-covid jabs so far of which 22,97,257 shots were given in a single day till 8:00 AM on Saturday. As per the Health Ministry website, India conducted 18,08,344 tests in the previous day.

Besides this, the government has sent the company-wise supply plan of Remdesivir for the period of April 21-May 16. It has allocated the supply plan among Zydus Cadilla, Hetero, Mylan, Cipla, Syngene/Sun, Jubilant and Dr Reddy’s. The companies have been instructed to ensure timely supplies to all states/UTS strictly as per supply plan. India currently has only seven manufacturers of Remdesivir.

On Friday, the government increased the allocation of the drug to 53 lakh vials (from 34.5 lakh earlier) up to May 16, in continuation of the previous plan from April 21-May 9. Maharashtra would get the highest share of 11.57 lakh vials, followed by Karnataka (5.75 lakh) and Uttar Pradesh (4.95 lakh).
