Allow states to have their own programs COVID-19 vaccination: Maharashtra CM

Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray, Prime Minister of Maharashtra, called on the central government to allow states to develop their own applications COVID-19 vaccination program.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thackeray said the vaccination in Maharashtra was “the fastest and most effective in the country”.

At present, people have to register their names on the CoWIN platform set up by the central government for vaccination.

‘As we plan to reveal vaccination for the 18 to 45 age group through government purchases, the CoWIN app sees a sudden increase in the number of citizens wanting to register nationally. “There is a fear that the app will not work well and on the first day of registration of the age group,” he said.

“We propose a separate app developed by states, where the data can be shared with the Ministry of Health of the Union Government, or a CoWIN app for each state, developed and assigned by the Government of India, he said.

This will provide a better interface and experience for citizens who would very much like to take the vaccine, the minister said.

Thackeray wrote that the vaccine supply is also a major challenge.

“If possible, the state is prepared to obtain the necessary stock of vaccines in one acquisition. However, the producers do not have enough stock. ‘If the countries are allowed to obtain vaccines from other manufacturers, a large population will be covered in a shorter time and help reduce the impact of a possible third wave,’ the CM said.
