MUMBAI: Kandivli police arrested two men from Bihar within 48 hours after the case was filed against them for stealing away with gold ornaments worth Rs 3.5 lakh, high-end watches and Rs 40,000 cash from the house of a 74-year-old man. The two men worked as domestic help at the flat for hardly two weeks each. The elderly man was suffering from Parkinson. The theft occurred within 11 days after the first servant Shyamsundar Yadav (28) was hired on April 4 who left for his hometown claiming that he is going to attend his brother’s marriage. “While leaving he introduced his relative who stole more valuables before leaving for Bihar within 12 days after he was hired claiming that his wife has died,” said Kandivli police senior inspector Balasaheb Salunkhe. The theft was observed when the senior citizen’s daughter visited the house and noticed cash and other valuables missing. The victim’s daughter, in her complaint, said, “I got suspicious when both the helpers quit jobs and rushed to their hometowns. When I visited my father’s flat who have stayed alone for a decade found out valuables and cash worth lakhs of rupees was missing.” Police said they went through the CCTV footage and found out the second help Anil Yadav (37) travelling to Worli Dairy on April 28. Police also traced Shyam’s mobile number to Darbhanga in Uttar Pradesh and sent a team there. While Shyam was arrested on May 1, Anil was arrested a day later and police have also made some recovery from him.
