Odisha: Subject-wise highest marks in IX, X basis for board exam results

BHUBANESWAR: The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) has approved alternative method of assessment for awarding marks for Class X board exams. Under this, subject-wise highest marks secured by a candidate in Class IX (both half yearly and annual exam) and in the practice exams (second, third and fourth) in Class X will be considered for the assessment. For the practice exams conducted in Class X, the board will consider the two highest marks achieved in each subject.
Board sources said 40% weightage will be given to the highest marks secured in Class IX exam in each subject. In case a candidate has not appeared in any of the practice tests in Class X, 100% weightage will be given to the marks secured in Class IX and the subject-wise highest marks will be taken into consideration.
It stated that the two highest marks among subjects in three practice tests conducted in Class X will be given 30% weightage each. In case any candidate has appeared in only one practice test, then 70% weightage will be given to the marks secured in Class IX exams.
School-wise merit list will be prepared after giving appropriate weightage to marks secured and uploaded in the examinations.
The Class X board exams (High School Certificate/Madhyama/state open school certificate) were scheduled to be held from May 3 but were cancelled due to rising cases of Covid-19.
The BSE was directed to come up with an alternative method of assessment to award marks to candidates. After discussing with various stakeholders, the board has now published the assessment method. “In case any candidate is not satisfied with the marks, he/she can appear in the exam to be conducted offline by the board after the pandemic situation improves,” the BSE stated.
HSC candidates had appeared for their half-yearly exam in Class IX in 2019 but could not appear for the final exam owing to Covid. For such students the board had conducted practice tests during January, February, March and April after schools reopened this year after over nine months break. The BSE framed methods of assessment based on teaching activities undertaken and tests conducted at the school level.
