Two more die in last 24 hours to take total death toll to 449
Manipur sees single day highest surge with 600 cases

Imphal, May 07 2021: While two more succumbed to COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 449, as many as 600 people tested positive for the virus during the last 24 hours with Imphal West and Imphal East accounting for 374 .

This is the highest surge recorded on a single day ever since the global pandemic landed on the soil of Manipur in 2020 .

The previous highest surge in a day was 432 recorded on May 4.According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, a 47-year old man from Kakching and 65-year old female from Imphal East expired at JNIMS.

Meanwhile 576 civilians and 24 personnel of CAPF were tested positive for the contagion at JNIMS, RIMS, Imphal East, Imphal West, Maipakpi Hospital, RD Wing, Swiss Clinic, CMC, Hillside Hospital, Peace Hospital, Raj Medicity, Shija Hospital, Jivan Hospital, Babina Diagnostics, Escent Diagnostics, Thou-bal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Ukhrul, Churachandpur, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Kam-jong, Senapati, Tengnoupal, Noney, Pherzawl and Tamenglong.

The civilians belong to Imphal West (208), Imphal East (166), Thoubal (40), Bishnupur (33), Kakching (18), Ukhrul (22), Churachandpur (34), Chandel (7), Tamenglong (19), Senapati (17), Kangpokpi (3), Kamjong (2), Tengnoupal (1) and Noney (6) .

Following recovery, 83 people who were undergoing treatment for COVID-19 have been discharged during the last 24 hours from home isolation (53), JNIMS (1), RD Wing (13), CCCBB (2), Churachandpur DC (1) and Shija Hospital (13) .

The cumulative number of positive cases is 34,333 (general population 30,685 and Central security personnel 3,648) .

This figure includes 3506 active cases (general population 3330 and Central security personnel 176) and 30,378 recovered cases (general population 26,911 and Central security personnel 3,467) .

On the other hand, a total of 762 D type oxygen cylinders and 192 B type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the State.

Air passengers who came to the State on May 3 by Air India flight AI-3713 in rows 12-18 have been informed to report to the COVID-19 Common Control Room on 1800-345-3818 or respective District Surveillance Officers for further surveillance and necessary testing.

However, no air passenger was tested positive on arrival at Imphal airport today, according to a press release issued by IDSP, Manipur.

As per latest information provided by the COVID-19 Common Control Room, 2,51,099 people have been vaccinated against the virus in the State.
