Delhi recorded 341 more coronavirus deaths and 19,832 new cases on Friday, while the positivity rate remained below 25% for the second consecutive day. This is the fourth time in the last five days that the number of new cases remained below 20,000. After consistently going up for over a month and pushing the city crematoria to their limits, the daily number of Covid-protocol cremations is now steadily dropping, data from three municipal corporations shows. From a peak 717 on April 29, the corporations oversaw 506 such cremations this Thursday. The city witnessed a drop of 153 metric tonne in oxygen supply on Thursday as against Wednesday’s allocation of 730MT, AAP national spokesperson Raghav Chadha said on Friday. ) The national capital has received three out of the 21 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen plants from France and is likely to get the remaining later this month, officials said on Saturday. The three PSA oxygen plants donated by France have been installed at Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital in Narela, Ambedkar Hospital and Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.
The Delhi government's Women and Child Development Department has set up a task force across districts to resolve issues faced by children affected by the coronavirus pandemic, a statement said. The members of the district task force (DTF) include WCD officers, child protection officers, chairman of child welfare committee (CWC), sub-divisional magistrate (HQ) as the nominee of the district magistrate, and a nominated member from the Delhi Commission For Protection of Child Rights, it said.
Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, Delhi Social Welfare minister Rajendra Pal Gautam inspected an old age home here on Saturday and asked officials to ensure that proper healthcare facilities are provided to senior citizens. The minister conducted a surprise inspection of an old age home in Bindapur run by the Delhi government having a capacity of 50 residents, an official statement said.
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the number of Covid-19 vaccination centres will be increased three times in Delhi and demanded that the Centre supply around 2.6 crore more vaccine doses for inoculation of all people in the national capital in the next three months. Currently, vaccination is going on at 100 centres in Delhi. The number of centres will be increased to 250-300 by the Delhi government, he said in an online briefing.
Delhi Police chief calls for strict action against hoarders of Covid-19 medicines, oxygen cylinders
Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava on Saturday held a virtual meeting to review the action taken against hoarding of COVID-19 medicines, injections and oxygen cylinders besides the effective enforcement of the lockdown to curb the spread of the infection, officials said.
Delhi received 488 MT oxygen on May 7, which is 30 per cent less than 700 MT that the Supreme Court had directed the Centre to supply to the national capital, AAP MLA Raghav Chadha on Saturday. He said the national capital needs 700 MT oxygen everyday to maintain supply of the life-saving gas in hospitals, and 976 MT if they count other facilities like COVID Care Centres.
A PIL was moved in the Delhi High Court on Saturday urging it to direct the Centre and the Delhi government to set up drive-in vaccination centres in open areas, including stadiums, as has been done in Mumbai. (PTI)
Delhi government-run Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka will start functioning as a dedicated Covid facility from Saturday, an official order said. The hospital will initially have a capacity of 250 beds which will be scaled up later, it said. The national capital, which is witnessing a surge in Covid cases, currently has 22,289 hospital beds and only 2,451 are vacant.

Actress Raveena Tandon says she is disturbed by the oxygen shortage in the capital amid the second wave of Covid and has taken it upon herself to send oxygen cylinders to the city. Raveena has started an initiative called Oxygen Seva On The Wheels Mumbai To Delhi, where she is sending oxygen cylinders through her non-profit organisation, Rudra Foundation to the Capital. "Just look around you, how can what's happening no need you to do something, instead of just sitting and tweeting about it. As you can see, Delhi is almost gasping for breath, and this is the initiative a few like-minded people along with me decided to take up," Raveena told IANS.
