A medical oxygen plant is likely to come up for the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla. Director of Vimsar Lalit Meher said the official process for setting up the plant is underway.
Official sources said currently Vimsar, which has a 225-bed Covid-19 hospital depends upon three plants in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts for refilling. Hospitals of around 6 districts, including Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Balangir and Sonepur also depend upon these plants. But the total capacity of the three plants is 2,400 mega cylinder per day and Vimsar alone requires around 800 mega cylinders a day. And under the condition, if any of the three oxygen plants goes out of order, it will lead to serious trouble for Covid hospitals.
A doctor said oxygen is the mainstay of Covid treatment. So far, Vimsar has not faced a shortage of oxygen.
