Benni McCarthy has wished new Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos well after speculation had initially linked the AmaZulu boss to the national team post.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) unveiled the 69-year-old Belgian on Wednesday as Molefi Nsteki's successor and he is scheduled to arrive in the country next week.

In the wake of Ntseki's departure, rumours were doing the rounds that McCarthy would take over as Bafana boss due to his impressive record at AmaZulu this season.

"The rumours [on Bafana], we try not to let rumours get to us and derail what we want to do as individuals and as a team," said McCarthy, as quoted by SowetanLIVE.

"In the end, it was former Cameroon national team coach Broos who got the nod, and McCarthy has wished him and Bafana Bafana all the best.

"We have got a good group of players. I can't see why there can't be a success. All I can say to the new guy [Broos] is good luck and all the best," McCarthy added.

"We know that we'll be playing qualifiers for the World Cup, and we'll be rooting for Bafana.

"All I can give them is my best wishes; more I can't do."
