JAIPUR: The number of total Covid-19 infections in the state crossed the seven-lakh mark on Thursday and rose to 7,02,568. The state saw 17,532 new cases on the day. Some 16,044 people were discharged from hospitals from across the state. However, 161 people lost their lives with the toll in Jaipur crossing the 1,000 mark. With an increased number of cases and oxygen crisis, many private hospitals in the city have started refusing to admit new patients who require oxygen. Active cases, meanwhile, inched closer towards the two lakh figure and are now 1,98,010.
A Congress councillor, Maya Valmiki, was among those who lost their lives while fighting Covid in Jaipur where the death reached 1,020 after reporting 46 fatalities on Thursday. Valmiki was the councillor of Ward No 97 of Jaipur-Heritage Municipal Corporation. Jaipur also saw 3,440 daily cases, which rose from previous days.
The number of active cases in the city increased to 46,206.
Hospitals in Jaipur are running to capacity. In the afternoon, relatives of those looking to admit patients at leading private hospitals were in panic when hospital authorities refused to take them citing oxygen shortage.
“It will not have an impact on patients in ICUs and ventilators. We have already intimated the government,” said a spokesman of a private hospital.
Meanwhile, health minister Raghu Sharma intervened and promised oxygen supply to these hospitals.
At least 10 private hospitals had put up notices saying they will not take new admissions due to the non-availability of oxygen cylinders.
Following Jaipur, Jodhpur reported 27 deaths which took its toll to 776. Udaipur witnessed 13 deaths taking its toll to 371.
The districts which reported new cases are Jaipur (3,440), followed by Jodhpur (2,301), Udaipur (932), Alwar (910), Bikaner (901), Sikar (713), Kota (693) and Chittorgarh (550).
