How to use speedtest: 2-Minute Linux Tips

Hi, this is Sandra Henry-Stocker, author of the “Unix as a Second Language” blog on NetworkWorld.
In this Linux tip, we’re going to look at a tool called speedtest that allows you to check the speed of your connection to your Internet provider. The tool is not installed on Linux systems by default, but is easy to find and install.
Once speedtest is on your system, it's extremely easy to use. All you have to is type "speedtest" on the command line and you'll see something like this:
It shows my service provider, picks a server based on ping responses, tests my download speed and then tests my upload speed. Note that t is not unusual for download speeds to be quite a bit faster than upload speeds.
