The Pad Thai in local "asian" restaurants is not that great compared to what I have had before. plus no real thai places. so was wondering if there's something similar on a typical chinese menu

I think pad thai was an import of stir fried rice noodles from China, like how ramen is lamien. Mei fun, chow fun, and ho fun are the same deal in China/Taiwan.

Yeah true mei fun and similar dishes are rice noodles but not the same as pad thai. The recipe doesn't seem ridiculous so last resort you could get the ingredients and make it at home, might be cheaper and tastier as well.

Panang (or Pineapple, which is extremely similar) Curry is the GOAT Thai Food. When I was in San Diego I had several spots that served awesome versions of those. Unfortunately haven't been able to find anything that compares where I live now.
