Srilanka on Thursday announced travel ban on India due to prevailing Covid-19 condition in India. All the arrivals from India will be banned with immediate effects.
Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority said that travellers from India will not be allowed to disembark in Sri Lanka. The Director General Civil aviation in a letter to the CEO of the national carrier Srilankan Airlines has said in accordance with instructions received from health authorities of Sri Lanka due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it is hereby directed that travellers entering Sri Lanka from India will not be allowed in the country with immediate effect. The decision has been taken in the wake of rapidly increasing Covid-19 infections in India.
Several countries like the UK, the UAE, Australia and Singapore have already banned travellers from India as well as other South Asian countries as coronavirus situation continues to prevail in India.
Sri Lanka too is currently experiencing a rise in Covid-19 cases. The country has been reporting nearly 2,000 fresh cases of covid infections from last 5 days, up from average 200 per day up until mid-April.

However, the Covid-19 caseload in India has reached 2,10,77,410 with 4,12,262 new infections and 3,980 fatalities being reported on Thursday. Country’s overall death toll stands at 2,30,168, as per the data released by the Union Health Ministry.
