Veda Krishnamurthy's sister succumbs to Covid-19, two weeks after mother's demise

New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) Indian women's cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy's sister Vatsala Shivakumar has passed away due to COVID-19, two weeks after her mother succumbed to the deadly virus.

Vatsala, who was admitted at a hospital in Chikkamagaluru, breathed her last around 1745 hrs on Wednesday.

The all-rounder had earlier lost her mother Cheluvamba Devi last month.

On April 24, Veda, who has represented India in 48 ODIs and 76 T20s, had tweeted about her mother's demise while also informing that her sister too was battling for her life.

"Appreciate all the messages I have received about the loss of my Amma. As you can imagine my family is lost without her. We now pray for my sister.

I have tested negative & appreciate if you can respect our privacy. My thoughts & prayers go out to those going through the same!," , the Bengaluru-based cricketer had written.

India recorded the highest single-day COVID-19 infections and deaths with 4,12,262 people testing positive and 3,980 patients losing their lives in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative figures to 2,10,77,410 and 23,01,68, respectively, Health Ministry data showed on Thursday.
