EPA Rates VW Taos CUV at 31 MPG Combined

Volkswagen of America announces the official fuel economy ratings for the ’22 Volkswagen Taos compact CUV, saying the front-wheel- and all-wheel-drive models are competitive within their segment.

The front-wheel-drive Taos features an 8-speed automatic transmission and has EPA-estimated ratings of 28 mpg (8.4 L/100 km) city, 36 mpg (6.5 L/100 km) highway and 31 mpg (7.6 L/100 km) combined.

Taos models with FWD are tied for best-in-class EPA-estimated highway fuel economy for internal-combustion models, Volkswagen says in a news release.

All Taos 4Motion all-wheel-drive models feature a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and have EPA-estimated ratings of 25-32 mpg (9.4-7.3 L/100 km) city/highway and 28 mpg combined.

All ratings are based on regular unleaded fuel.

All versions of the Taos are powered by a 1.5L turbocharged, direct-injected 4-cyl. making 158 hp and 184 lb.-ft. (250 Nm) of torque.

According to the EPA, buyers of the ’22 Taos front-wheel-drive model can save as much as $750 in fuel over five years compared to the national average new vehicle, while those who choose the AWD Taos can save as much as $250.

Expected to go on sale in June, the Taos will be priced starting at $22,995 for the front-wheel-drive model and $24,445 for 4Motion AWD.
