Briton Callum Ilott has joined Alfa Romeo as second reserve driver.
Ilott will share reserve driver duties with Robert Kubica when the Pole is unavailable on account of his commitments in different racing classes.
Ilott, a member of the Ferrari driver academy, will participate in some first follow periods in 2021, beginning at this weekend’s Portuguese Grand Prix.
Alfa Romeo staff boss Frederic Vasseur stated Ilott, 22, was “probably the most gifted coming by means of the ranks”.
Ilott, runner-up to new Haas F1 driver Mick Schumacher in Components 2 in 2020, can be Ferrari’s check driver this 12 months and is racing a Ferrari 488 GT3 within the GT World Problem Europe Endurance Cup.
Ilott stated: “The 2 (check) periods I had with the staff within the final two years have been extraordinarily helpful in getting me accustomed to the best way a Components 1 staff works and I’m assured I can hit the bottom working in my new position as one of many reserve drivers at Alfa Romeo Racing.
“I can not wait to be within the automobile and assist the staff proceed its progress.”
