CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 3600
Cooler: Stock for now
Mobo: ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS Motherboard
Cabinet: Lian Li Lancool 215 ARGB
OS SSD: Crucial BX500 480GB (Avoided Samsung EVO due to the price)
SMPS: MPG A850GF SMPS - 850 Watt 80 Plus Gold (PSU is something with which I would prefer a large buffer)

Components already owned:
RAM: Already have 3600MHz 8GB x 2 Kingston HyperX
Storage HDD: Have a 4TB WD Blue

Will be using a temp GPU for now, although plan to have the likes of a 3070 down the road. Chose this mobo as it has good VRM temps, and hits the sweet spot at 14K.

What do you guys think? Thanks :)

get the Crucial MX500 series ssd. also for what the system will be used. mention this as its hard to rate something without that.

Gaming and emulation (PS3 games etc.)

Going for the Tomahawk board due to the better audio codec and 2.5 LAN.

Should I get a SATA SSD or something like the Samsung EVO? Really don't quite understand the differences here.

If you have the budget, get an M.2 NVMe SSD as that is faster; there are other options besides Samsung Evo you could consider (I'm not the best person for that), else the MX500 is good. Also, I don't think 2.5G LAN is needed (unless you have a specific NAS use case) so no need to pay a premium for that alone. Tomahawk is a good board nonetheless, but maybe a bit overkill if you don't need the extras it offers.

Unless you move a lot of files around, NVMe isn't worth it for the price.

Apart from NAS is there any other use case where 2.5G lan could be useful?

Yes, this board strikes the perfect balance of price and gestures, that's why opted for it. Opted too because of NAS.

Only problem is waiting for a good graphics card deal now.

Do you have any suggestions for the cabinet or do you feel this one is good? Saw an msi one at a similar price which also seemed nice.

Check out Kingston A2000. It's great VFM.

The Lian Li Lancool 215 is a great budget cabinet. You cannot go wrong with it.

Not sure which MSI. Case is a personal preference, but the Lancool 215 has one of the best thermals so I'm taking a blind guess that this is better. It performs better than more expensive options though the 200mm fans that come with it are more for looks than absolute performance. Just check if it offers all the other features your require from a case

The only thing you need to note on the Lian Li 215 is that it's not possible to top mount an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II AIO due to it's larger radiator. Front mount is possible. The other thing it has going for it is the fan hub but mind you that it cannot be used to control the fan speeds.

Wouldn't need liquid cooler, I never overclock :)

Guys, what do you suggest on the GPU front? Patience slimming day by day.

Replaced the SATA SSD with the one you suggested. TY.

I suggest patience...
If lucky, you can get some half decent deals on used cards here.

For SSD, do not get BX series from Crucial. It is their most basic category like WD Green. If you have budget, get WD SN550 NVME drive; it strikes good balance between price and performance. Also note that, unless you are working with large file sizes, you won't notice speed difference between say a Sammy EVO 970 NVME and Crucial MX500 or Sammy 860 EVO SATA. Even these SATA drives would be good.
