Chandigarh: The Placement Cell, Government College of Education, Sector – 20D, Chandigarh organized a 3-day International Workshop on Industry Readiness: Identifying Trends and Enhancing Skills from May 4-6t May 2021. The Coordinator of the Placement Cell and the Convenor of the workshop, Dr. Ravneet Chawla on Day 1 introduced the theme of the workshop. Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Patron of the event and Principal of the college extended a warm welcome to the Chairperson, Dr. Maria H. Nadeem, Director of Communications ARICON, Board Member of The London Institute of Skill Development, and the Resource Person/ Trainer, Ms. Neha Sharma Bhullar, Counsellor, The Australian Counselling Association for the workshop.
Dr. Sapna Nanda, Dean of the college and the Inaugural Convenor greeted and introduced both the Chairperson and the Resource Person for taking time out of their busy schedules to be a part of the 3-day workshop. She also elaborated on the importance of career development and how it is necessary in teacher training and education programs.
The workshop included a detailed discussion on ideas related to career development and the skills required to be a potential candidate for any job or career a person chooses where Ms. Neha Sharma Bhullar was the trainer for the same. The Day 1 of the session was on the topic “CAREER: A SYNOPSIS OF CAREER, CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND CAREER APPROACH”, where Ms. Neha gave the participants basic know-how of Career Development and what exactly is the distinction between a job and a career. The Day 2 session talk was on th topic, “BE WORK-READY: AN INTERNATIONAL GUIDE TO EMPLOYMENT AND EMPLOYMENT SKILLS”, in which Ms. Neha elaborated more on the topic and gave the participants an intricate demonstration of Career Planning and the various ways in which one can upskill themselves and make use of them in the field they are willing to work in. The workshop was concluded on, 6th May, the Day 3 of the whole workshop with the topic, “SCOPE AND TRENDS IN CAREER DEVELOPMENT: TROUBLESHOOTING”, where Ms. Neha welcomed various queries from the participants which Ms. Neha answered with great enthusiasm and understanding.
The International Workshop was an interactive and splendid learning session where 75+ attendees, largely students of the host college, joined in and participated and also put their queries up for the speaker and the Chair of the session, Dr. Ravneet to answer. Ms. Neha shared a prospective career choice one needs to make and the crucial measures one needs to take while applying for jobs and keeping in mind every aspect. She highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in filtering the applications at the international level and shortlist candidates. One must refer to the mission and vision statement of the agency one is applying to, she said. She also suggested not to send the same resume to different agencies and that one must orient these to the expectation in the advertisement or webpage etc. She conducted certain activities and also gave examples from her own personal experiences making this workshop all ears for the attendees.
Dr. Balwinder Kaur, co-chair of the sessions summed up each session and connected with experiences of life. The workshop was concluded by Dr. Savita Arya, Vice Principal, Government College of Education with a huge applaud to the Chairperson and the trainer resource person who made an awe-inspiring impact on the trainees. The trainees also included invited counselors from few local schools and the SCERT. The attendees had active participation and reflected huge appreciation for the Placement Cell to bring in appropriate trainers and Chairperson from the London School of Skill Development. The Principal closed the session with gratitude to the guests and motivating students to stay healthy and building up skills even during the unusual COVID times.
