Beed, May 6 (UNI) A day after the Supreme Court quashed a law granting reservation to the Maratha community in education and jobs, Shiv Sangram chief and MLC Vinayak Mete on Thursday announced that they will launch a massive 'Akrosh morcha' here after relaxation of the restrictions.
He made this announcement after a meeting of the Maratha organizations held here.
In the meeting, it was decided that five prominent personalities will submit a memorandum to district collector Ravindra Jagtap on Friday.
In the memorandum, they have demanded that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray should immediately give reservation to the Maratha community in the manner it deems fit, else the members of the community will take to the streets across the state, he said.
Mr Mete further said that the community's more than three decade-long demand of reservation was quashed despite holding 58 silent rallies across the state and sacrifices of the youths.
As a result, there is deep anger among the members of the community and the possibility of a major outbreak across the state in near future cannot be ruled out, he pointed.
Coming down heavily on the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state and Ashok Chavan, chairman of sub-committee on Maratha reservation, the Shiv Sangram chief claimed that they did not handle the case properly in the apex court.
Now the Chief Minister should not waste time pointing fingers at the President and the Prime Minister and dismiss Mr Chavan from the ministry, demanded Mr Mete.
