From his personal experience, faded singer Sizza Man has revealed why local artistes shouldn’t expect to earn a lot from selling music online, at least not for now.
Sizza Man, real name Andrew Kayemba was once a big star in the entertainment industry, famed with hits like Angella, Taxi money and Lusama but despite his songs popularity, he earned little out of them.
Alhough many local singers currently believe that selling music online is the way to go, Sizza Man believes that musicians shouldn’t expect to earn millions from music when the general economy is still performing poorly.
On Wednesday, NTV Uganda through their Facebook page posed a question “Are Ugandans ready to buy music online? ” and in the comment box, Sizza Man gave his opinion saying that Ugandans aren’t ready for such change.
“I’ve always said this and I will say it again, the music industry cannot develop before the economy,” he said. Thereby implying that artistes can’t generate a lot of money from people who are poor.
Sizza’s comment comes at the moment when many artistes are fighting to release music albums, but the big question is ‘do these artistes earn from these albums? Or it’s just a show off?
It’s no secret that only a few artistes such as A Pass, Bebe Cool, Sheebah and Eddy Kenzo have managed to earn a little something from selling music online. And recently, GNL Zamba also came in the news saying that his ‘little known’ Spear Album earned him over a billion Ugandan shillings.
Although many Ugandans thought it was a lie, Zamba said that most of the people who bought his album were outside Uganda.
