Moscow, May 6 (Sputnik) The Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK, designated foreign agent in Russia) has lodged a claim with a court of appeals over the selective ban on activities imposed last month within an extremism case, its legal team said on Thursday.
In late April, the FBK, aligned with jailed opposition figure Alexey Navalny, was prohibited by the Moscow City Court from collaborating with media, organizing public events, running in elections and using financial services not related to paying taxes, salaries and reimbursements.
"Our lawyers are challenging all of the prohibitions imposed on the FBK, including on posting on the internet, organizing public events, participating in elections, and using bank accounts," law firm Team 29, representing the appellant's interests, told journalists.
Moscow prosecutors seek to designate the FBK as an extremist organization on the grounds that it allegedly fomented social and political instability in the country. If the prosecution succeeds, the NGO will be banned from public domain, while its founders and members will face criminal prosecution.
