‘Incredible India’ ad runs close to CNN’s crematorium article

The Ministry of Tourism, India, has got involved in a tough position when one of its advertisements related to ‘Incredible India’ ended up next to a CNN news article about distressing sights of crematorium and hospitals in New Delhi. As per the screenshot sent to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE by readers, the tourism ad read “Explore Incredible India”.

This comes as India lately brushed off by COVID’s second wave, bringing the death rate to over 200,000. A CNN spokesperson informed the MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that this was “an isolated and regrettable ad placement” which was rapidly resolved and the campaign got stopped since that time. As CNN has brand safety tools to make sure that ads do not run side by side with or within inappropriate content of articles and videos, MARKETING-INTERACTIVE appreciates that the mistake happened due to the fact that ad was programmed to run on a trending news page and the content of the week that had been trending was around the fight of India against COVID-19.

Also, the spokesperson explained that the dodge has since been resolved. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to the Ministry of Tourism, India, for comments, along with CNN for additional information on the media buying agency.

The Indian government has requested Twitter to remove multiple tweets by netizens and politicians with growing criticism rising from how the government has handled the rise in case.
