Aurangabad/Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday described the Supreme Court's decision to strike down a law granting 16 per cent reservation for Marathas in jobs and educational institutions as 'unfortunate'.
Issuing an official statement after the court's ruling, Mr Thackeray requested the Prime Minister and the President to take an urgent decision on Maratha reservation as the apex court has clarified that the state government has no right to grant reservation.
"Earlier, the Centre had shown its love for justice by taking prompt decision in the Shahbano case, Atrocity Act and section 370. For this, changes had also been made in the constitution. Now, the same pace should be shown regarding the Maratha reservation,” he said.
"No one should try to spoil the atmosphere in Maharashtra on the pretext of Supreme Court's decision. The people should not be provoked. The battle of laws regarding Maratha reservation will continue till victory," added Mr Thackeray.
