Odisha reports  9889 covid cases,16 deaths in a single  day as 14 day  lockdown begins

Bhubaneswar,May 5 (UNI) The 14 days lockdown was enforced in the entire Odisha today to contain the surge of covid 19 which has assumed an alarming proportion with over 8000 new cases being reported every day in the state.



Besides the two weeks lock down,the state government has also imposed weekend shut down on every Saturday and Sunday.



Sources said since April 27 last the state has been witnessing a covid surge of over 8000 cases every day except on April 30 when the new cases set a record 10,413.



Health and Family Welfare Department sources said in the past 24 hours,the state registered 9889 new covid positive cases and 16 fatalities taking the covid tally to 4,89,641 and covid toll of 2104 in the state.



Out of 9889 cases, as many as 5611 were reported from the quarantine centres while the rest 4278 are local contact cases.



Eleven districts in the state reported more than 300 cases while two of them Khordha and Sundargarh registered over 1000 cases in the past 24 hours.



While Khodha reported 1331 cases Sundargarh recorded 1137 new cases followed by Cuttack( 790), Bargarh (483),Angul ( 443) Sambalpur(470) and Kalahandi ( 414).



In the past 24 hours Khordha reported a maximum number of foure covid deaths followed by three eachin Gajapati and Kalahandi ,two each in Rayagad and Sundargarh and each in Puri and Sambalpur district.



Official sources said as many as 6164 covid patients were recovered on Tuesday taking the total recoveries in the state to 4,10,227.The active cases now stood at 77,257.



Meanwhile, the State Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued a fresh direction to the collector of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada,Koraput , Malkangiri and Nabarangpur to put Border Check Posts (BCP) on all inter-State roads (NH, State roads and local roads) along Andhra Pradesh and Telangana border with Immediate effect.

The District Administrations, the order said, should ensure border tracking for all the major and minor entry points for incoming people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana adjoining their districts to the state of Odisha.



Adequate police arrangement has been made for such tracking and anyone coming to Odisha from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by any means or entering the state in any other mode shall undergo institutional quarantine for 14 days in Cluster THC .
