Andrew Benon Kibuuka, the president of the Uganda National Performing Arts has come out to defend Alex Mukulu for embarrassing a group of teenage dancers during BBS TV’s ‘Yolesa ekitone’ talent search.

Recently, Mukulu, one of the judges of the talent show humiliated a trio of dancers when he kicked them out of the competition for having a bad odour.

The veteran artiste/actor told off the dancers openly to work on their body odour so as to eliminate the bad stench that had contaminated the environment.

Although majority of the public went offensive over Mukulu’s approach towards the young dancers, to Kibuuka, the former was very right to humiliate the boys because it was good for their hygiene.

“Of course, many people are saying what Alex Mukulu said was bad but at times these young boys need serious and merciless pieces of advice. I have ever seen an artist chased away from national theatre publicly because he was shabby, he was in sandals. At times we need to rebuke people publicly if we need them to change,” he said during an interview with Spark TV.

“These young boys were just victims of the circumstances but many artists smell, therefore every artist must borrow a leaf from what happened to these young ones. Because this was a lesson for art. Every artist now must know that before going in public, he/she must be clean. Artistically, Alex Mukulu was professionally right, these stars you see on your TVs to reach that level a lot must be done and verbatim rebukes are one of them.”
