Mamata appeals to people to donate to CM Covid care fund to bolster fight against invisible enemy

Kolkata, May 5 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday appealed to the people to donate to the CM Covid care fund to bolster the fight against an invisible enemy.
Hours after taking oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the third time, Ms Banerjee swung into action as promised and announced various measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
Addressing the media here this afternoon after reviewed the coronavirus situation in the state, the chief minister issued fresh COVID guidelines.
In the guidelines, she has made wearing a face mask mandatory and also allowed 50 per cent attendance in state government offices.
The chief minister said that in view of the rising cases, all spas, parlours, shopping malls in the state will remain closed and public programs have been banned till further orders.
In the guidelines, Ms Banerjee said that work from home for private sector, for 50% of the staff allowed. And jewellery shops to remain open from 12 PM to 3 PM.
“However, home delivery to be encouraged and the banks will operate from 10 AM to 2 PM,” the chief minister said.
With the permission of the police, 40 people can be allowed to attend the wedding ceremony. All markets have been closed and shops will only be allowed to open from 7-10 in the morning and 5-7 in the evening, she said.
Apart from this, the chief minister said the local train service has been suspended till further orders in the state and there are orders to operate the state transport service including the metro with half the capacity.
Ms Banerjee said no passenger will be given entry at Kolkata Airport without the RT-PCR test after midnight on May 7. This test should also be done within the last 72 hours.
She has announced that hawkers, transporters, journalists will be given priority in the administering the first dose of vaccine against Covid-19.
The chief minister said that the government is taking measures to increase beds in hospitals to address the issue of bed crunch at hospitals.
"I chaired a meeting to review the present Covid situation. We are increasing 3,000 beds... it will be 30,000 beds in someday," Ms Banerjee said.
She said the state is short of vaccines and that she has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention.
The chief minister said, "Giving second Does of vaccinations will be our priority''.
Ms Banerjee announced that village doctors have been directed to attend Covid-19 patients first.
The chief minister said there is more disturbance in places where BJP has won. BJP is circulating about fake incidents through old videos.
“My appeal to all political parties is to stop this. You all have done a lot during elections. No such incident can be tolerated. Bengal is a place of unity,” she added.
