Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest car manufacturer. They have a variety of models in their portfolio. One of the model that they have been working on recently is the Celerio. They have been working on the next-generation Celerio and the same has been spotted testing on our roads several times. Maruti had launched the Celerio in 2014 and ever since then, nothing much has been changed or updated in the hatchback. The all-new Celerio is expected to be launched in the market some time later this month and here is all that we know about this upcoming hatchback.

Design

The current generation Celerio actually has a boxy and tall boy design. The upcoming new-gen Celerio is based on the HEARTECT platform which is already used in many other Maruti cars like WagonR, Swift and Dzire. Overall design of the Celerio has been changed. It does not get a tall boy design anymore.  The headlights looks smaller and smooth than the current version and the bumpers have also been redesigned. There is probably a chrome strip on the front grille with Suzuki logo on it.

The bumper is also expected to get fog lamps in the higher trims. As this is based on a new platform, it looks slightly bigger than the current version. The higher trims are expected to get alloy wheels whereas the lower variants will get steel wheels only. The higher variants will have ORVMs with integrated turn indicators whereas the lower variants will the turn indicator on side fender.

At the rear, all-new Celerio gets a redesigned bumper, boot and tail lamp. There is a high mounted stop lamp and the handle to open the boot is positioned on the tailgate itself. Overall, the design on Celerio looks entirely different from the current version but, we feel that, the production version of Celerio is probably going to look like a grown up version of Alto.

Interiors

Just like the exterior, the interior of the all-new Celerio is going to be redesigned as well. It will get features like manual AC, charging socket, and several storage spaces. The AC vents would be positioned vertically on the dashbaord. The black cabin will have silver accents at places giving it a fresh look. Power windows will also be available with the hatchback. There will be Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The instrument cluster will be analog and the steering might get controls for the infotainment system as well. In terms of safety, Celerio will get ABS, dual airbags, parking sensors as standard.

Engine and transmission

As we all know, Celerio is available with a petrol engine option only. The new generation Celerion will also be powered by a petrol engine only. It will be using a 1.0 litre, three cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 67 Ps and 90 Nm of torque. There is even a possibility that Maruti Suzuki might offer a 1.2 litre petrol engine with the higher variants. This engine generates 81 Ps and 113 Nm of torque. Both petrol engines will be available with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options. A CNG fuel version of the upcoming Celerio is also expected to be launched in the future.
