Vijayawada, May 5 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday stressed for a total lockdown for a limited period of time in all States in order to break the rapid spread of the most dreaded mutants like N-440K.
Addressing a press conference here, the TDP chief said that the Jagan Mohan Reddy led government ordered just 13 lakh doses of vaccines while all other States were procuring larger quantities to secure the safety of their people. Tamil Nadu had ordered for 1.5 crore doses while Karnataka and Kerala were procuring 1 crore doses. Maharashtra has decided to for universal vaccination for all its citizens, he claimed.
Expressing concern over rising infections, Mr Naidu said, "Except vaccine, there is no other way to combat this crisis. There are many reports to support this. The aged people are becoming safe if they are vaccinated. Even the children are becoming unsafe and vulnerable if not vaccinated. It is time for the Centre and the State to pool their public resources together to save people”.
Mr Chandrababu Naidu reiterated that the N-440K variant was indeed proving more dangerous than expected. It might have originated in 2020 itself as per the officials' claims. The fact was that this mutant was spreading rapidly all over the country. The scientists have established that N-440K was first noticed in the Kurnool district in AP. With a lot of pain and anguish, the TDP would again demand that the Government should turn all its focus on vaccination for all.
Mr Naidu asked why the AP Chief Minister was not taking the required responsibility when so many people were dying and becoming victims to the virus. The Anantapur District Collector said that they were not conducting tests and that was telling the infections were far higher than the 20,000 daily cases being reported now.
Mr Naidu urged the AP Government to focus on the oxygen supply logistics and management immediately so as to save the lives of patients. There should be a continuous monitoring on oxygen, beds and ventilators.
