McCarthy, Scalise Back Stefanik to Replace Cheney: Report

(Bloomberg) -- Reps. Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise, the top two House Republicans, are boosting Elise Stefanik, a vocal ally of former President Donald Trump, to replace Liz Cheney as the third-ranking member of House GOP leadership, Punchbowl News reports.

Scalise openly supports Stefanik to replace Cheney, Punchbowl quotes Scalise spokesperson Lauren Fine as saying. McCarthy is trying to clear the field for Stefanik, according to the political news startup founded by former Politico reporters.
