Thiruvananthapuram, May 5 (UNI) Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday condoled the death of Padma Bhushan Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom Valiya Metropolitan, who passed away at a private hospital in Kumbanad town in Pathanamthitta district due to age related ailments early this morning.
In a message, the Governor said "profoundly grieved by the passing of Most Rev Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan Thirumeni, world's eldest Bishop who served longest tenure as Bishop in any Indian Church.
Mr Khan said Mar Chrysostom Thirumeni conveyed spiritual wisdom with a touch of humor, making people smile as well as think of contributing to human welfare.
"My heartfelt condolences. May his soul rest in peace," he added.
Mr Vijayan taking to twitter said Padma Bhushan Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Valiya Metropolitan brought people together transcending the boundaries of religion and politics, cared for them and made them laugh.
Beloved Thirumeni's passing is a loss to humanity, a void that cannot be filled. Respectful homage, he said.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said "Heartfelt condolences on the demise of Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan, Metropolitan Emeritus of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church."
"I share my grief with all who are mourning this loss," he added.
Dr Shashi Tharoor MP in a tweet said "Mourning the passing of the most remarkable prelate I’ve ever met, Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, who passed away today aged 104 after serving as bishop for nearly 68 yrs. Wit, wisdom & erudition personified. RIP."
