Follow procedures for adoption of children orphaned due to Covid-19, says administration

Thane, May 5 (UNI) The district administration on Wednesday stated that the messages being circulated in the social media that a number of children orphaned following the death of their parents due to Covid-19 and available for adoption were incorrect.
A release issued by the District Women & Child Welfare department stated that it was illegal to give such children on adoption.
Taking a serious note of these messages and the subject, the department has reiterated that a joint cell has been set up by the Ministry of Women & Child Welfare and Save the Children (India).
Citizens who want to adopt any orphaned child are requested to contact the helpline and follow all due procedures in this regard.
"If any child is orphaned due to the death of parents and none of the relatives are ready to take care of them, then the helpline should be contacted," the release said.
The procedure for adoption and the helpline for the child adoption provided earlier is still valid, it added.
