Coronavirus India News Live Updates: A record 3,780 fresh COVID-19 fatalities were registered in a single day in India taking the death toll to 2,26,188, while 3,82,315 new coronavirus infections were recorded, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. With the fresh cases, the total tally of COVID-19 cases in the country climbed to 2,06,65,148. Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to 34,87,229 comprising 16.87 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 82.03 percent, the data updated at 8 am showed. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,69,51,731 while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.09 percent, the data stated.
Delhi hospital study finds 16% vaccinated individuals tested positive for COVID
A smallscale study on 113 healthcare workers who had received at least one vaccine dose at a private hospital in Delhi found that 18 tested positive for Covid but all except one had mild symptoms. The study, published in the peerreviewed journal Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research and Reviewson May 3, was conducted on employees of the Fortis Centre of Excellence for Diabetes, Metabolic Diseases and Endocrinology in Delhi. The participants in the study by researchers at Fortis, National Diabetes, Obesity and Cholesterol Foundation, and Diabetes Foundation (India), New Delhi, included doctors, nutritionists, nurses, paramedical workers, and maintenance staff. Of the 113 in the study, 107 had received the second dose of the vaccine.

COVID-19: Punjab CM rules out complete lockdown; announces phased opening of shops
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday announced phased opening of shops after a few of his cabinet colleagues raised the issue of resentment among shopkeepers over selective closure of shops amid the COVID19 outbreak. Chairing a virtual cabinet meeting, Singh ruled out a complete lockdown while stating that the restrictions currently in place in Punjab were more stringent than the lockdown conditions in many other states.

Second covid wave may lead to slowdown in coming months: PHDCCI
Imposition of partial lockdowns and curfews in many parts of the country, due to reemergence of COVID19 pandemic, has created incipient signs of economic slowdown in the coming months, industry chamber PHDCCI said on Wednesday. It also said that the strong growth of GST collections may partly be attributed to the significant acceleration in input costs visavis increase in commodity prices.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday told theDelhi government that it may not be justified to put a cap at Rs 10,000 on financial assistance provided to a construction worker and his dependents towards treatment of COVID19 as it may not be sufficient if more than one person in the family was infected. A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli said that COVID19 was a highly contagious disease and if one person in a family gets infected, others may too and each of them would require a course of medication.

Roche India today announced that the Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO) has provided an Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) for Roche’s antibody cocktail (Casirivimab and Imdevimab) in India. This approval was based on the data that have been filed for the EUA in the United States, and the scientific opinion of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) in the European Union.
