Amritsar: Nearly one and half year after a man had died under mysterious circumstances, the police have booked a person on charges of culpable homicide. The case was registered following a probe conducted by an SP-rank officer following orders of the National Human Rights Commission. The accused has been identified as Sukha Singh of Bhindi Saida village, who was on the run. Guro, wife of the victim, Buta Singh, had told the police they had saved around Rs 1 lakh for marriage of their daughter. She said on October 14, 2019, Sukha came to their house and took Buta along. She said around 11 pm, he came alone and told that her husband was lying near Thathi village. She said she went with Sukha and found her husband writhing in pain. Guro said she immediately rushed him to a hospital, but Buta succumbed on the way. The police said a case under Section 304 of the IPC was registered against Sukha following a probe. Cops said the raids were on to nab the accused. TNS
SGPC hires 24 firms for audit
Amritsar: To bring transparency in affairs of its gurdwaras and educational institutions, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has hired services of 24 chartered accountancy (CA) firms. SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur said these firms have been assigned the task of auditing financial transactions for the year 2021-2022. She said the SGPC would pay around Rs 49 lakh to these firms. "Every firm has been directed to submit its report by 10th of each month. In addition to their audit services, these companies would also train staffers in accountancy detailing," she said. TNS
Burglars strike at govt school
Amritsar: Burglars struck at Government Middle School in Kaler Mangat village on the intervening night of May 2-3, and decamped with inverter and battery by breaking open the window of the school, said Manjinder Singh, headmaster of the school, in a complaint to Majitha police.
